Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif and his wife sent flowers and a card to philanthropist and Chairman of Edhi Foundation Abdul Sattar Edhi on Saturday.
The gesture comes as news of Edhi’s ailing health has caused worry, drawing well-wishers and offers of assistance. Aseefa Bhutto Zardari also visited the ailing philanthropist on Saturday and spent time with orphans at the Edhi Home in Clifton.
Meanwhile, PPP Senator Rehman Malik visited Edhi in hospital on Thursday with Zardari’s proposal of treatment abroad. Edhi, however, declined the offer with a simple gesture, indicating he preferred to receive treatment in Pakistan. The senator had said if Edhi’s condition did not improve, he would visit again and take him abroad for treatment, but Edhi insisted he would only be treated in government hospitals of Pakistan. The philanthropist was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2013 but has been unable to get a transplant due to his frail health.
