A man and a woman, who were accused of having illicit relations, were made to walk through streets after a local panchayat in Gujranwala issued a decree against them.

Sources said that locals blackened the faces of the unidentified woman and the man and beat them with shoes and sticks. They made them walk in the streets for hours before the Sabzi Mandi police intervened and rescued the two, as per reports.

The locals claimed that the two were caught red-handed while having “a romance”.

The Sabzi Mandi police have registered a case and started an investigation.

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of the incident and sought a report from the officials concerned.
