SC seeks report on implementation of Sheesha ban

The Supreme Court on Thursday sought report from the federal and provincial governments regarding the implementation of sheesha ban across the country.

A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmad Anwar, resumed the hearing of the suo motu notice taken over the implementation of the ban on sheesha smoking and sought details from the attorney general for Pakistan and provincial advocate generals (AGs) in this regard until the next hearing of the case which was adjourned for four weeks.

During the course of proceedings, the counsel for the Ministry of Health told the court that the ministry had proposed ban on import of items used in sheesha smoking.

Upon this, Justice Maqbool Baqar remarked that sheesha smoking was causing serious health hazards.

The advocate general Punjab told the court that the government had prepared a draft regarding ban on sheesha smoking which was under consideration before the provincial cabinet.

The counsel for the Sindh government told the court that the chief minister had approved the summary regarding ban on sheesha smoking in the province, and now the bill was under consideration before the provincial assembly.
