Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has asked the people of Azad Kashmir to rid the valley and the country of corrupt elements by voting to his party for a positive change.

“Corruption is eroding the very basis of the country like a cancer as corrupt elements are making money by destroying national institutions,” he said while addressing a rally in Palandri, Azad Kashmir on Monday.

Political parties are staging rallies to garner public support in view of the forthcoming general elections in the valley on July 21.

“These elements are investing in lengthy and time-taking projects, such as that of generating electricity, where they can earn more commission as a result,” the PTI leader said.

According to him, Pakistan Steel, Railways and the PIA are in such [deteriorating] condition because of massive corruption.

Corrupt elements, Imran said, existed in the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), manipulated [electoral] data and sold out their loyalties.

“Rise above the thinking of voting on the basis of families and affiliations and vote for change,” Imran said.

He cited the local government system of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), saying he intended to bring a similar system in AJK.

Imran, however, admitted the party had remained unable to provide local government representatives the power they needed, adding that the provincial system is still obstructed by status quo.
