There’s no love lost between economist Dr Hafeez Pasha and federal finance minister, Ishaq Dar. The former pulls no punches in his critique of the latter’s handling of the economy in the newspaper articles that he writes.
Now the much accomplished Dr Pasha was, till very recently, working at Humayun and Haroon Akhtar’s think-tank. With Haroon now hired by Ishaq Dar to be his advisor on revenue collection, things got a little uncomfortable for Pasha at the think tank and a decision had to be taken.
“I had to choose between my career and Haroon’s career.” Guess which one he chose?
An interesting aside: Dr Pasha’s wife, an accomplished economist in her own right, has no problem, however. She’s currently serving as the Punjab finance minister.
