KARACHI – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Saturday revealed that it had decided to send a team to the UK to arrest Amin Qasim Dada, the main accused in the National Insurance Corporation Ltd scam.
The announcement was made at a press conference in Karachi by FIA Sindh Director Moazzam Jah. “The decision to this effect was made after FIA issued a Red Warrant for Dada,” Jah said, referring to the international arrest warrant which a country’s government lodges with Interpol when it wants to arrest one of its citizens who has escaped the country where he has committed a crime.
Jah said FIA had also lodged a case with the courts against Dada for violating local laws by travelling abroad even though his names was on the Exit Control List. Dada is already wanted in numerous cases, especially those involving corruption scandals, the biggest one being the NICL scam that has forced the country’s apex court to intervene and take up the matter itself.
“Dada is involved in a scam involving 480 million rupees, of which 100 million cash has been recovered, 500 million property has been confiscated and future cheques worth Rs 400 million have been signed and are with the agency and will mature on their given dates,” Jah said. He also said the agency conducted a raid and unearthed a scam and arrested a man involved in manufacturing fake government stamps worth Rs 45 million.
“The FIA team set up a sting operation which was carried out successfully in the city’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area,” Jah said, adding that an FIA official Salman Waheed was tasked with arresting the accused. “Inspector Waheed arranged a meeting for the delivery of such a stamp worth Rs 342,665 with one Azeem who used to deliver the stamps himself,” Jah said.
“The accused was arrested at the drop off point and upon interrogation revealed that more stamps were present at his house in Sachal Goth.” The team raided the house and also recovered fake challans of the National Bank of Pakistan and various rubber stamps of the stamp duty officer of city courts.
