An official of the Lahore High Court Bar has sent a legal notice to Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan for keeping Pakistani scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan under house arrest in the name of security.

The notice was sent by LHC Bar Human Rights Cell Co-Chairman Ashraf Asmi. He said the scientist has been facing movement restriction for years.

He claimed that the governments, since Musharraf’s regime, have kept Dr. Qadeer under virtual detention at the behest of United States.

He said Dr. Qadeer was facing immense difficulties in his daily life due to the restrictions imposed on his movement. The notice demanded Federal Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar to withdraw all curbs on the scientists; or else the court will be approached for legal action.

Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan has been under house arrest since 2004, although he continues to move around, allowed to make phone calls and receive visitors.
