Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has wished Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif a speedy recovery from his open-heart surgery that he will undergo in London on Tuesday.

In a tweet on Sunday, Ghani said that he would like to send his best wishes to Sharif, expressing the hope that the surgery goes well.

“We pray for his speedy recuperation,” he said in his message.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wished Sharif for his recovery.

“My best wishes to PM Nawaz Sharif Sahab for his open heart surgery on Tuesday. And for his speedy recovery and good health,” a tweet from Modi said.

Modi had earlier made a surprise visit to Sharif in December as a gesture of conciliation between the two nuclear-armed rival states.

The 66-year-old prime minister left for London earlier this week for medical check-up where his doctors decided to carry out the surgery. This is his second cardiac operation in five years.
