Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a clerk of the revenue office in WAPDA Faisalabad and his accomplice for their alleged involvement in multi-million rupees fraud.
The FIA also obtained physical remand of Hafiz Aqeel Ahmad and Asif Hussain from a local magistrate court.
According to FIA, the detained officials embezzled million of rupees against the electricity bills by stamping bills with fake stamp. The two clerks allegedly collected Rs460 million from consumers on account of electricity bills in connivance with WAPDA’s revenue office, post office staff and the computer operator.
During investigation, the two accused told the FIA that staff members of the post office, certain private people and senior officers of WAPDA were also involved in the fraud, and used to receive their share running into millions of rupees.
FIA is conducting raids to arrest other employees of WAPDA who are allegedly involved in the scam.
