The pre-Ramzan price-hike has begun in Sindh including Matli and surrounding areas due to prevailing poor governance in the province.
Rates of almost daily-use commodities are on the rise as the district administration is least concerned about the problems of poor people.
Due to sheer negligence of the local administration, butchers of Matli and Badin has increased the rates of meat by Rs 20 per kg. Majority of citizens have concerns that butchers will again increase the meat rates before Ramazan.
Local butchers said they did not willingly increase the rates, instead they were forced to do so due to increased rates of wholesale meat dealers. They said they were unable to buy cattle heads themselves due to their weak financial position, so they bought meat from big dealers.
They used to buy meat of calf and buffalo at the rate of Rs 270 per kg from dealers and sell it to customers at Rs 300 per kilograms, they added. However, now the dealers had increased the rates of meat from May 27 by Rs10 per kg and they were compelled to sell meat at Rs 320 per kilogram, they further commented.
On the other hand, the rate of mutton has been increased from Rs 600 per kg to Rs 650 per kilogram. Citizens said that the butchers community did not follow the government rules and sold the meat at their sweet will. The citizens have also expressed concern over increasing rates of chicken and other poultry products.
