Police foiled a major terror bid and arrested two suspected terrorists of a banned organisation after an encounter in Sachal area on Saturday.
According to Malir SSP Rao Anwaar, two Kalashnikovs were recovered from the arrested ‘terrorists’. He further revealed that the suspects along with their accomplices were allegedly planning a terrorist attack in the city.
The arrested persons were shifted to a secret place for investigation.
The arrested ‘terrorist’ Munir Ahmed alias Mufti Sahib has told the interrogators that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) Karachi chief Khan Zaman Khan Mahsood is hiding in Waziristan and operates his network from there.
According to investigation report, ‘terrorist’ Ahmed is a close aide of Karachi chief of the banned outfit.
He has confessed to involvement in attacks on security forces in Waziristan along with commander Hakeemullah Mahsood and Khan Zaman Khan Mahsood. He is also said to be linked with the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) and TTP Swat group.
The arrested militant has also confessed to demanding extortion money and carrying out murders in this regard on orders of Waziristan leadership of the extremist organisation.
He further said that at least 18 of his accomplices have been killed in different operations by rangers, intelligence agencies and the police.
Rangers are operating on special instructions of the federal government in Karachi against extortion, murder, targeted killing and other crimes. The federation recently extended rangers special operating powers under the constitution of Pakistan.
