Police on Friday informed the Sindh High Court (SHC) that encroachments from Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Cooperative Housing Society had been removed and the possession of the land had been handed over to its real owners.

The SHC bench was hearing an application seeking contempt of court proceedings against the KMC’s anti-encroachment cell director, SSP Malir, and others over their failure in the removal of encroachments from the society.

During Friday’s hearing, the SSP Malir submitted a report stating that complying with the court’s order, they had successfully managed to vacate the land from the clutches of grabbers, adding that the possession of the land had now been handed over to its real owners.

After the submission of compliance report, the court disposed of the application against the police and the anti-encroachment cell.

In the previous hearing, the respondents had assured the court that the encroachments at Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Cooperative Housing Society would be removed in two steps. “On 11th May, an initial portion will be vacated from encroachers in first step and the remaining ones will be removed on 23rd and 24th May,” they stated.

Earlier, the appellant had filed a contempt application against the KMC’s anti-encroachment cell director, land utilisation department and other authorities concerned for failing to comply with the court’s directives.
