TOR committee decides to remain headless

A parliamentary committee of government and opposition lawmakers formed to formulate terms of reference (TOR) regarding a judicial probe into the Panama Leaks held its first meeting on Wednesday, deciding not to appoint a chairman to head the body.

The government and opposition representatives exchanged copies of their respective TORs for the proposed judicial commission.

The committee is due to resume its deliberations on Thursday (today).

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, National Party head Mir Hasil Bizenjo confirmed that the committee would remain headless.

“It is not necessary to appoint chairman of the committee,” he said, adding that a copy of the Chief Justice’s letter was handed over to the members of the committee for deliberation.

“We are hopeful for an amicable solution of the issue,” he said.

Senator Aitzaz Ahsan said that opposition would further deliberate on its joint TORs.

“We will take all the decisions with consensus,” he said, adding that nation would not be disappointed.

Speaking on this occasion, PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that it was agreed that there would no chairperson.

The parliamentary committee comprises six members each from the government and the opposition, including stalwarts of the PPP, PTI, and the ruling PML-N.
