LAHORE – Sri Lanka beat Afghanistan 15-0 in the 1st SAARC Baseball Cup match at the Punjab Stadium here on Friday. Both teams started the first innings cautiously and failed to score any run. Sri Lankan batters opened their account in the second innings, scoring two runs through Iresh and Abeysooriya.
Afghanistan batters were completely subdued by the Sri Lankan pitchers in their second innings. Lankan batters scored four runs in their third innings. Mahathanthila, Perara, Iresh and Mannauium scored one run each. In the fourth innings, they added six more runs to their total. Nabeen, Samera, Khosla, Nelanka, Saajeela and Mannauium scored one runs each. Sri Lankan batters scored one runs in their fifth inning through Eampiya.
Supun and Krishna added two more runs, taking their sixth innings total to 15. Afghanistan failed to score in all their seven innings as Sri Lankan pitchers maintained accuracy and aggression throughout the match. The ended due to the 15-run difference. Today, Afghanistan will face Nepal at 3.00 pm at Punjab Stadium Lahore.
