  • Punjab CM says provision of Rs33 billion funds by China for OLMT project a milestone

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that provision of funds of Rs 33 billion by China for the Orange Line Metro Train project is an important milestone and despite speculations and propaganda China has proved its friendship with Pakistan and written a new history.

Talking to Punjab Assembly lawmakers who met him at the Chief Minister’s Office on Monday, Sharif said that OLMT was a revolutionary project for providing modern transport facilities of international standard to citizens.

“Only a handful of elite are opposing this project because they travel by planes and luxurious cars and are unaware of the transport problems of the common man,” he added.

The chief minister said that the elements criticizing the OLMT project were in fact enemies of welfare and betterment of the common man. He, however, added that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government would complete public welfare projects expeditiously without paying attention to criticism of these few persons who were opposed to development of the country.

Sharif said that those criticising welfare projects were not sincere to the masses and the elements involved in politics of protests were once again bent upon wasting the precious time of the nation.

The chief minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government had introduced the culture of transparency, standard and speed in the projects. He said the federal and Punjab governments had set a splendid example by saving Rs 215 billion of the poor nation which was unprecedented in history.

Sharif said that cooperation of China in development projects was commendable and Chinese assistance had enabled Pakistan to join the ranks of developed countries. He said that the PLMT project was aimed at resolving transport problems of the common man as the masses had a right over modern, speedy, comfortable and economical facilities of travel.

He said that work was continuing round the clock on the project and its completion would bring an improvement in the living standard of the common man. He said the OLMT project would bring a revolution in the transport sector and would be a masterpiece of transparency, standard and architecture.
