Pakistani activist Anum Shahzad attends UN summit

Anum Shahzad, a dedicated activist from Lahore, was nominated to attend the 10th anniversary of the World Summit on Innovation and Entrepreneurship which was organised by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development at the UN Headquarters in New York from May 18-19.

This two-day event brought together 400 impressive innovators, entrepreneurs and global change-makers to seek entrepreneurial and innovative solutions to world’s pressing issues in aligning the UN’s 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) portraying the common ground transforming people, planet and bringing prosperity and peace.

During the event, Anum mentioned that there were broader challenges in Pakistan and getting access to education was one which technology could help resolve. She said she aimed to achieve this challenge in line with the UN’s SDGs.

She said that being a mentor for the US-Pakistan Youth Councils in Lahore, she was working to provide students a more all-inclusive education experience through tech-camps and workshops that focussed on critical thinking and creativity. “It is a project entitled, ‘I have a dream, to educate’ and highlights the right of a child to attain education and specifically targets street children,” she said.

Anum Shahzad was also welcomed by Pakistan’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dr Maleeha Lodhi, Consul General of Pakistan to the UN Raja Ali Ejaz, Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN Nabeel Munir and others during her stay in New York City.

Formerly a student of the Convent of Jesus and Mary, Anum currently serves as an IT services coordinator at Forman Christian College University.
