FBR to achieve revenue target of Rs 3100b this year: Dar

Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar has stated that the Federal Board of Revenue is set to achieve revenue target of 3,100 billion rupees this year.

He stated this while speaking at pre-budget seminar in Islamabad on Saturday. He said this constituted 56 per cent increase in revenue collection during the last three years as collection stood at 1946 billion rupees in 2013.

The minister said a number of measures were taken during these years to expand tax net. He said one-third SROs were withdrawn during first year of the present government, one-third during current year and the remaining would be withdrawn during next budget.

The finance minister said that fiscal deficit, which stood at 8.8 per cent of the GDP in 2013, had been brought down to 4.3 per cent this year. He said from the very beginning of the tenure of the present government, discretionary funds of the prime minister were abolished.

The minister said the government was pursuing policy of three Es, including economy, energy and extremism, to build strong foundations for national progress and development.

He invited all the political parties to give their inputs for preparing a concrete roadmap for strengthening economy. He said economy should not be politicised, and stressed for reaching a charter of economy in the line of charter of democracy. Ishaq Dar said the government believed in consultations, and all the positive suggestions would be included in the budgetary proposals.
