GUJRANWALA – Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) President Sheikh Sarwat Ikram has condemned continuous drone attacks and termed it major hurdle in the economic growth of the country. While talking to a delegation of local traders, Ikram said Pakistan was being suffered by a so called war on terror imposed on it by America and added that innocent Pakistanis were martyred by Americans for years now. He added that American aggression inside Pakistan was not less than state terrorism by the Americans and it should end now otherwise, he said, the government should announce to withdraw its all types of support to the forces in Afghanistan. He further said Pakistan could not advance on economic front until there is stability in the country and added that it would only be possible when Americans and its agents working inside Pakistan would be routed out. He said Pakistan wanted to strengthen its ties with America and the west but it should not be at the cost of our innocent citizens.
Punjab Industries secretary visits sasta bazaar: Punjab Industries Secretary Dr Shujat Ali paid a surprise visit to under construction sasta bazaar at Peoples Colony and directed the administration to ensure the supply of all edibles there. He was flanked by Member provincial Assembly (MPA) Imran Khalid Butt and District Coordination Officer (DCO) Barrister Nabil Ahmad Awan. Shujat Ali said all commodities would be sold in these bazaars at city district government’s fixed prices and quality and quantity must be ensured.
The buyers would be provided with entertainment facilities in the bazaars and rights of consumers would be protected in these autonomous setups, he said and added that such bazaars would be set up in the whole province and provincial government had already asked suggestions for improvement in the models. Nabil Ahmad Awan vowed to complete the project within three months and said that stalls would be allotted purely on the basis of merit.
EDUCATION DEPT GIVEN RS 5M: The Education Department has been given Rs five million to provide furniture to 1,538 primary and 274 middle schools in the district. According to Education Executive District Officer (EDO) Muhammad Ghazanfar Ali, provincial government was extending maximum facilities to the public sector schools so that a large number of students might be benefited in proper educational conditions. He intended to enroll maximum number of students in the schools and even those who had failed to qualify the entry test to achieve hundred percent enrollments as directed by the government.
BLIND MURDER CASE TRACED: City police have traced a blind murder case of a local trader and arrested his widow along with her paramour who confessed the killing to hide their illicit relations. Gujranwala Superintendent of Police (SP) Rai Ijaz said Muhammad Yasin was disappeared some days ago and his wife informed the police about his absence. Baghbanpura police investigated the case and finally traced the widow Farida and her paramour Farhan alias Haji who slaughtered Muhammad Yasin and threw his body into a canal. The police also recovered the dagger which was used to slaughter Muhammad Yasin.
illegal arms SMUGGLER REMANDED: Gujranwala Division Anti Terrorism Court has sent weapons smuggler Jehanzeb Khan, a resident of Peshawar, on eight days of physical remand. Jehanzeb Khan was arrested while attempting to smuggle two hand grenades and nine pistols to central Punjab for which he had already taken money from the tribal areas.
