Ajoka theatre’s annual drama festival titled “Reclaiming our History” ended on Thursday on a brilliant note.
In a four-day festival, Ajoka performed its four different plays presenting its brilliant work. The festival was staged on an occasion of Ajoka’s 32nd anniversary.
The plays included two new productions “Anhi Maai da sufna” and “Kabira khara bazaar main” and two evergreen plays “Kaun hai yeh Gustakh” and “Lo phir basant aaie.” These selected plays showed a glimpse of Ajoka’s long and successful journey.
The festival concluded on an historical play “Kabira Khara Bazar main” based on life story of sufi saint of sub-continent Bhagat Kabir. The play was written by Bisham Sahni and directed by Indian director Kewal Dhaliwaal who visited specially from Amritsar to Lahore to be a part of these celebrations.
The audience admired the play that highlighted ‘Bhagti Movement’ and gave a message of religious harmony, tolerance and peace.
Dhaliwaal congratulated Ajoka on its 32nd anniversary and said audience always awaits Ajoka’s performance in India. He said that Ajoka’s role for promotion of theatre and cultural activities is well acclaimed and added that Ajoka’s play “Bullah” proved a fresh breeze to enhance peace between Pakistan and India. He said he really enjoyed the experience to work with Ajoka team.
Despite severe heat in Lahore, Alhamra Hall remained packed for all the four days. Youth, especially, enjoyed the festival.
