Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has informed the United States that Pakistan has strong reservations over its policy of stopping the funding for purchase of F-16 aircraft.
He said Pakistan still desires that the issues between the two countries should be resolved through negotiations.
The interior minister was talking to US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Olson on Thursday. US Ambassador to Pakistan David Hale was also present on the occasion.
Nisar said that Pakistan wants to further widen the already existing relations with the United States but it was necessary that Pakistan’s view point and its sovereignty were duly respected.
During the meeting, Pak-US bilateral relations, regional situation with particular reference to the situation in Afghanistan came under discussion.
Nisar said a stable and peaceful Afghanistan is not only in the interest of Pakistan but the entire region. He emphasised that only solution to the Afghan problem was negotiations.
Richard Olson said that the US appreciates the efforts by Pakistan for lasting peace in Afghanistan. He said despite certain problems and difficulties the US government gives special importance to its relationship with Pakistan and wanted to further widen it.
Both the leaders agreed to work for advancing the reconciliation process for peace in the region.
