LAHORE – The Pakistan Cricket Board has chalked out plans for another Twenty20 tournament which will be added to the domestic calendar this summer. The PCB has decided to stage a ‘Super Eights’ Twenty20 tournament in June this year. A senior PCB official has confirmed that discussions were held at a recent Cricket Committee Meeting and plans were in place for the competition to commence in June. “While 13 teams took part in the previous competition, this time around top eight teams from October’s competition will play in the forthcoming tournament,” the official was quoted as saying by Pakpassion.
“The exact dates of the tournament have not been finalised but June is looking very likely as the suitable time. The tournament will be called ‘The Faysal Bank Super Eights’ and of course we have to slot it in when the Pakistan national side is not on a tour,” he said. The official added that the tournament will be hosted when the national players were available because they are a huge draw for the fans. Karachi and Lahore were the hosts of previous Twenty20 domestic competitions but this time Faisalabad is the front-runner as the host city.
“We’ve not finalised a location yet, two or three locations are a possibility and are under discussion, but Faisalabad is definitely the front-runner, given that Lahore and Karachi have already hosted Twenty20 competitions and we’d like to give a different city an opportunity to host the tournament,” said the official.
