The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday directed the Karachi Water & Sewerage Board managing director to file comments as to why the court’s contempt proceeding not be initiated against him for not complying with its orders.

The SHC bench, headed by Justice Nadeem Akher, was hearing the contempt petition filed by Tanzeel-ur-Rehman, resident of Karachi’s New Karachi Sector, 2C area, who moved the court against the water board for not providing water to the area despite the court’s directives.

The petitioner submitted that the SHC had directed the KWSB to complete work and provide water to the area’s residents but its directives had not been complied with as yet. He added that this act of the KWSB fell within the ambit of court’s contempt; therefore, contempt proceedings should be initiated against its MD and other officials. The court issued notice to the KWSB MD and others directing them to file their respective comments on 20th May of 2016.
