TMOs get safety equipment for sewer workers

Punjab Minister for Zakat and Usher Malik Nadeem Kamran has directed the town municipal officers of the province not to allow sewer men enter into manholes without safety equipment and implement the SOPs of preventive measures. He said that strict action would be taken against TMOs failing to implement the SOPs.

He stated this while addressing a ceremony in which 42 safety equipments were awarded to 27 town municipal administrations at the Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company on Thursday.

MPA Tariq Mehmood Bajwa, Additional Secretary Local Government Rashid Ahmad Khan, MD PMDFC Amir Nazir, General Manager Engineering PMDFC Iftikhar Rasool, Technical Consultant Ashiq Chaudhary and 27 TMOs of Punjab were also present on the occasion.

The minister told the MOs that the Punjab chief minister had taken strict notice of deaths of sewer men and ordered to provide complete kits of safety equipments to the TMAs. He said that kits having 14 instruments were being provided.

He said the Punjab Government had also made training arrangements for sewer men regarding use of safety tools and experts would spend a day in each TMA office to train sewer men.

The minister said that for first time in the history, steps had been taken for safety of sewer men by providing them safety instruments worth millions of rupees.

Later, the minister distributed 42 safety kits among 27 TMOs.
