The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) team along with officials of civil defense and Sindh police on Tuesday jointly raided four brick kiln companies of Mirpurkhas and sealed them on the spot with restriction of further burning.
The EPA team, under the supervision of Regional Incharge Muhammad Sohaib, along with Assistant Director (Tech) Ali Muhammad and Shah Khalid (Chemist) as well as representatives of civil defense and Sindh police jointly raided four brick kiln companies including M/S Moosa Khalil Brick, M/S Sindh Brick Company, M/S Shalimar Brick Company and M/S Shandar Brick Company Mirpurkhas and sealed them. The raiding team found that brick kiln companies were operational except M/S Shandar Brick Kiln Company.
The brick kiln emits toxic fumes containing suspended particulate matters rick in Carbon particles and high concentration of Carbon Mono oxide and oxides of Sulphur that are harmful to eye, lung and throat. These air pollutants stunt the mental and physical growth of children.
While appreciating the efforts of EPA team, Sindh Minister for Environment Dr Sikandar Mandhro said that all the brick kiln companies should follow the environment protection orders (EPOs) which was in the best interest of public living in surrounding areas of brick kiln companies.
