After his knockout at the hands of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, Amir Khan has his sights set higher than Kell Brook.
Amir Khan’s war of words with Kell Brook continues to rumble on after he rejected the chance to fight the IBF welterweight champion because he wants to face “the biggest names in boxing.”
Brook called out Khan on Twitter after the latter was knocked out by Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez on Saturday, but went on to say it would not be safe for Khan to step into the ring with him.
Khan was sent to the canvas in the sixth round in Las Vegas by a fearsome Alvarez overhand right, the 29-year-old’s third loss in his last eight bouts.
The former light-welterweight champion is keen to get back into the ring soon, but Brook is not a name on his potential list of opponents.
“Not at all. I’m not even thinking about him, to be honest with you,” he said.
“We’ve got other plans. We’re going to go to the drawing board with Virgil Hunter, Al Haymon and my team. I spoke to them and he’s not one of the names we’re looking at, so it’s not an option.
“We’re looking at a few other names. We’re going to announce something in the next couple of months. I’m going to take some time off and not think about boxing.
“I would love to do that [silence Brook] but because he talks so much, I just don’t want to give him that opportunity and that chance.
“I’m fighting the best people in the world, the biggest names in boxing. My name is up in lights in Vegas. Look at my last few opponents and look at his last few opponents – I think it says it there.”
