Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Monday accused Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of downplaying the Panama Leaks issue through visits across the country and doing useless speeches instead of replying to the allegations in parliament and presenting himself for accountability.

“People had advised me to leave Nawaz Sharif alone and focus on Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chief Asif Zardari who is more corrupt but then came Panama Leaks and everyone got to know that Nawaz Sharif’s children own offshore firms,” Khan told a large party gathering here.

“How can the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) bring other corrupt leaders to book when the man leading the country is corrupt himself,” he said, claiming that the KP government had been able to depoliticize the police and bring down corruption in government departments to a record low.

Khan asked the federal government to lead the country towards prosperity and development through honestly and not only by building roads and bridges, saying he had put Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the path to progress.

“Nawaz Sharif needs to understand nations do not prosper or developed by only constructing bridges and roads, but by honest and just leaders,” Khan said.

“We are going to build and improve hospitals and educational institutes in the province to improve the conditions while also working to depoliticise police further.”

“I challenge you prime minister to form a similar anti-corruption body that we are bringing in the KP if you are innocent.”

The PTI chairman also hinted at a full-fledged but quick tussle with the government in the coming days, saying he “would like to invite the premier to a Twenty 20 match.”

He said time was not far when he will correct Punjab Police, referring to a possibility of his rule in the federal government.

Regarding the killing of a girl by a mob in Abbottabad, Khan said he was embarrassed that the incident occurred and hoped the culprits will be brought to justice.

Imran also announced to visit Bannu on Wednesday to address another political gathering to further his campaign against corruption.

He lashed out at Federal Minister for Housing Akram Khan Durrani and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman for criticising him and his party during Prime Minister Nawaz’s visit to Bannu a few days ago.

The PTI chief especially came down hard upon the JUI-F affiliated federal minister, who on Prime Minister Nawaz’s visit, had criticised PTI for not doing enough to provide relief to the people. Khan accused Durrani of trying to bribe PTI lawmakers.

Imran recalled Durrani’s claims where he said that he can topple the KP government.

Referring to Maulana Fazl, who often labels Khan a ‘Jewish agent’, the PTI chief said that “Jews do not need agents when people like Fazlur Rehman are there to damage the country”.

“Even if a Jew becomes the prime minister of Pakistan, Fazlur Rehman would not only accept a ministry from him but will also issue an edict to give himself a religious cover,” said the PTI chief.

A scuffle was also witnessed between PTI workers and police was witnessed amid firing and use of batons between the two prior to the party chairman’s address.

A private news channel’s DSNG van was also attacked by some violent PTI workers. However, police were able to control the mob by the time Khan reached the venue.
