An initial investigation report on the mistreatment of women at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally in Islamabad has been sent to the prime minister. The report puts the blame for the incident on a female superintendent of police who had reportedly left before the PTI rally had ended.

SP Ammara Athar was tasked with ensuring security of the women enclosure of the PTI’s public gathering, but she left the venue before the rally ended.

Other police officers also started leaving gradually once their in-charge left, said a source.

The report says the incident happened as there were no security personnel present at the camp. The investigators recommended strict action against the female SP.

PTI Women Wing Chairperson Munazza Hassan had submitted an application to a police station against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and held the Punjab government responsible for the mistreatment of women.

“Our security was very good for the gathering, but 10-12 unknown men came and created all the mess. Video evidence can be provided for identification of the culprits. The Punjab government is responsible because of non-provision of foolproof security,” she said while addressing a press conference at the Chairman’s Secretariat in Lahore.

Police had registered a case against at least 100 unknown persons for harassing women workers of PTI during its anti-corruption rally.
