DG Rangers forms committee to investigate death of MQM’s Aftab Hussain

Director General Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar on Wednesday has formed a committee to inquire into Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Farooq Sattar’s coordinator Aftab Hussain death in Ranger’s custody.

Rangers spokesman stated that the committee would soon prepare a report over the matter whereas he also told that officers for having alleged involvement in the killing have also been suspended.

On the other hand, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has also ordered to hold an unbiased investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, the party has also announced a countrywide day of mourning for today (Wednesday). over Hussain’s death.

Earlier on Tuesday, Dr Sattar’s coordinator died while under treatment in Jinnah Hospital in Rangers custody.

Rangers had taken Hussain in custody from his Federal B Area residence two days before his death. The paramilitary force had acquired 90-day remand of the suspect a day before he was admitted to a hospital.

He was shifted to the hospital early Tuesday morning while the administration there stated that he died at 8:20am. Dr Sattar had called for a fair probe into Hussain’s death. He said that Hussain’s family should be assured that the cause of his death was natural.

According to a report issued after his autopsy, Aftab’s heart beat and nerves were not functioning when he was brought to the hospital, however, despite putting him on a ventilator, doctors failed to restore his breath.

A spokesperson for the paramilitary force stated that Hussain had complained about pain in his chest and died of cardiac arrest on the way to the hospital.

Funeral prayer of the deceased was offered in Numaish Chowrangi in the evening yesterday. Dr Sattar left opposition committee’s meeting at Aitzaz Ahsan, Opposition Leader in the Senate’s residence in the federal capital early to attend his coordinator’s funeral.
