OMT case: Govt submits ‘secret’ documents to judges

A division bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday heard arguments of Attorney General of Pakistan Ashtar Ausaf and the Punjab advocate general on an application seeking permission to submit sensitive documents related to Orange Line Metro Train (OMT) project in court’s chamber and not in the open court.

Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh summoned Attorney General Ashtar Ausaf and Punjab advocate general to his chamber and heard their plea for around thirty minutes.

On previous hearing, the court had ordered the government to present the agreement signed between Pakistan and China for OMT project. Later, the bench heard the arguments of LDA’s counsel Advocate Shahid Hamid.

As the hearing commenced, head of the bench Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh asked that how newspapers published news of federal government’s plea being dismissed when the court had not dismissed it. The court adjourned the hearing till Thursday.

Some newspapers had reported that court has rejected the plea of the federal government.

On January 28, the bench stayed construction of the project at eleven monuments of the provincial metropolis on several petition.  The places where the work was stopped included Chauburji, GPO building, SC registry building, Shalamar Garden, Buddhu ka Awa, Dai Anga tomb and historic charge near Nabha Chowk and etc.
