Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that supremacy of the constitution and democracy is essential for country’s progress and prosperity.

The CM expressed his views while addressing the oath taking ceremony of newly elected office bearers of the Sindh High Court (SHC) Bar Association and Hyderabad District Bar Association.

Sindh High Court Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi, Justice Sadiq Hussain Bhatti, Justice Saeeduddin Nasir and Advocate Zia Linjar among many others attended the ceremony.

Shah claimed that the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan 1973 was unanimously approved by parliament as a result of great efforts by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

Lawyers have rendered exemplary sacrifices for the restoration of the constitution, human rights, judiciary and strengthening of democracy and democratic institutions, he added.

Shah claimed that PPP in its recent governing tenure, focused on improving and developing the health and educational sectors. Providing job opportunities to unemployed youth of the province was also a priority for the government, he added. Hence, the government succeeded at providing jobs to at least 0.2 million jobless people besides imparting technical education to several others so that they could be able to take jobs in private sector or start their own business, he added.

He said that his political party has established five medical universities and six general higher learning institutions along with the formation of Provincial Higher Education Commission.

The PPP has now shifted its attention towards improving the literacy rate and primary education system in the province, he said. Therefore, the provincial government in collaboration with United States Agency for International Development (USAID) programme has established 106 primary schools to provide quality education, he added.
