An improvised explosive device (IED).blast near a convoy of Rapid Response Force (RRF) has injured five police personnel in Quetta’s Eastern Bypass area on Tuesday, the media reported.

A contingent of police was patrolling the area in a mobile van when they were targeted through an IED leaving the vehicle damaged, police sources said.

The injured personnel were rushed to Civil Hospital Quetta for treatment. Doctors described condition of one of the injured as critical.

Police and Frontier Corps personnel reached the blast site, as an investigation into the incident went underway.

The attack has come in a day after Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif was in the provincial capital to inaugurate different development projects.

In April, three terrorists were gunned down by law enforcement agencies near Eastern Bypass. The security personnel acted on a tip off and raided Rind Garh area. Miscreants resorted to firing, retaliating to which at least three terrorists were killed.

Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest but least developed province, has remained under the grip of violence for over a decade which has claimed thousands of lives.
