KARACHI – Dilawar Fareed Baig, a relative of former Sindh home minister Zulfiqar Mirza, has been removed from the post of Director Training and Development at Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) under the Supreme Court’s ruling on superannuation. It has been learnt that Baig was granted extension for two years during the former PIA managing director Ejaz Haroon’s period, but now he had to leave after crossing the age limit approved by the apex court.
The airlines’ Chief Financial Officer Faisal H Malik, who is said to be a close aide of Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah’s son, has replaced Baig, sources said. The PIA’s spokesperson confirmed the news and said Baig had been retired and he did not apply for further extension. Meanwhile, the PIA is reportedly sustaining an additional burden of Rs 0.66 million a month in terms of qualification allowances for the staff, appointed in different months of 1010, at its Finance Department.
