The opposition parties have scheduled a meeting today in Islamabad to discuss a plan of action to deal with the prime minister’s alleged links to offshore companies named in the Panama Leaks.
The meeting will be held at Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Aitezaz Ahsan’s residence.
The parties will attempt to finalise Terms of References (TORs) for the commission that would probe the leaks. On the other hand, the government has also called a meeting today.
Agenda of the meeting is to finalise a course-of-action against the government, focusing on Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif’s accountability.
The meeting will be attended by members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Awami National Party (ANP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Pakistan Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q), Qaumi Watan Party (QWP), Awami Muslim League (AML) and representatives of Supreme Court bar, along with the host, PPP.
The leaders will discuss the letter written by PM Nawaz to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Anwar Zaheer Jamali while Supreme Court (SC) bar’s and JI’s TORs will be discussed as well.
The matter of conducting forensic audit of Sharif family s wealth will be part of the discussion also.
The Prime Minister had earlier written to CJP Jamali for establishment of a commission to probe the leaks against him. Opposition parties mainly Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan had demanded the government to form a judicial commission headed by the CJP.
Meanwhile, different opposition parties were seen consolidating ever since Prime Minister s family was named in the leaks. It should be noted here that PM Nawaz was not directly alleged but his daughter and family members were.
