US to return smuggled Buddha sculpture to Pakistan

A Buddha sculpture that was smuggled from Swat to the United States in the 1980s will be returned to Pakistan on Thursday.

According to some estimates, the rare sculpture is worth more than US $1.1 million.

A ceremony pertaining to return of the smuggled artefact will be organised at the district attorney general’s office in Manhattan, New York on Thursday.

The statue was put up for sale at an art exhibition in New York.
