Sindh Chief Minister’s Adviser Maula Bakhsh Chandio has said that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will not respond in kind to verbal attacks launched by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) as it does not want to disturb peace in Karachi.
Talking to Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami in his talkshow DNA on Channel 24 on Tuesday, Chandio said that MQM workers could not call themselves refugees anymore since they have been living in the country for the last 70 years.
“It is an old practice of MQM to protest when its demands are not entertained by the government. The MQM has staged protests even when the party was sharing power in the province,” he said.
“Our party also has reservations against the Sindh Rangers but we do not abuse the institution and the MQM should learn from this,” he added.
Talking about the Panama Leaks, Chandio said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif could have avoided landing into controversy by forming a judicial commission under the supervision of the Chief Justice of Pakistan when the news of the international scandal first surfaced in media.
“Parliament has the ultimate power and Prime Minister Nawaz still has the option to avert the crisis by going to the National Assembly and taking the House into confidence over the matter involving his family,” he said, adding that government ministers were adding fuel to the fire by making conflicting statements.
Speaking about PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chandio said that the young party chief is the new hope for the people of Pakistan and his age will not be a hindrance in his political career. “Both Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto started their political careers when they were quite young and they have left a great legacy behind them,” he concluded.
