SHC seeks comments on petition of Railway Employees Housing Society

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday sought comments from the Pakistan Railways Headquarters general manager, Karachi commissioner, Railway police, SHO Aziz Bhatti police station and others on a petition filed by Pakistan Railway Employees Housing Society.

Pakistan Railway Employees Housing Society approached the SHC requesting to restrain the Pakistan Railways Headquarters GM from interfering into the society’s matters and appointing administrator of the society.

While hearing the petition, the SHC bench, headed by Justice Nadeem Akhter, also directed to maintain status quo of the society.

The petitioner submitted that 63.13 acres land was acquired at Gilani Railway Station in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and plots were allotted to the railway employees. “The Pakistan Railway Headquarters GM wants to take over the land and trying to cancel the lease. When this plan was failed, he used illegal routes to take control of the society’s land,” the petitioner added.

According to the petitioner, the general manager recommended to appoint an administrator of the society on 27th of March 2014 which was illegal as there already existed an elected management of the society.

Citing Pakistan Railways Headquarters GM, Karachi commissioner, chief secretary, Aziz Bhatti police station SHO as respondents, the petitioner requested the court to restrain the Pakistan Railways Headquarters GM from interfering into the society’s matter. After the initial hearing, the court issued notices to the respondents and advocate general directing them to file the comments on 29th of April 2016.
