HAFIZABAD – At least 30 people were injured when the roof of a banquet hall collapsed in Chack Dewan Singh near Hafizabad. Reportedly, a marriage party of the daughter of Muhammad Bashir, a resident of Chak Dewan Singh, came from Nowshera Virkan. The marriage party was sitting in the hall when its roof collapsed. As a result, more then 30 members of the marriage party, including Aalimgir, Imran, Manzoor, Neelam, Shahida, Parveen, Muhammad Jameel, Muhammad Umar, Muhammad Hanif, Ashiq, Rahmat,Irfan, Zeshan, and Muhamamd Irfan, were injured, seven of them seriously. The Hafizabad Rescue 1122 reached the spot and shifted the injured to the hospitals of Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Qila Didar Singh and Lahore.
KISAN BOARD RALLIES AGAINST PRICE HIKE: The Hafizabad Kisan Board took out a rally against increase in prices of fertilizers and imposition of taxes on agriculture. Gujranwala Kisan Board Divisional President Aman Ullah Chattha led the rally.
The participants chanted slogans against price hike, the worst conditions of agriculture and corruption of the government.
At Fawara Chowk, the participants staged a demonstration. Aman Ullah Chattha, speaking on the occasion, warned the government that if the recently imposed taxes were not withdrawn, the farmers would stage a set-in in front of the prime minister’s house and the presidency.
LABOURERS DEMAND INCREASE IN WAGES: A meeting of Power Looms Union Hafizabad, held here with Muhammad Zaman Ansari in the chair, demanded the government increase their wages according to inflation and ensure issuance of social security cards for getting healtsh, education and other facilities.
NINE HELD FOR POWER THEFT: At least nine electricity pilferers were caught red handed by WAPDA teams in different villages in the district. On the direction of Gujranwala Cantt circle, Superintending Engineer Javed Iqbal, Sub-Division No 4 Sub-Divisional Officer Mian Zafar Iqbal raided the village Kassassy and caught red handed Irshad Hussain, Muhammd Irfan, Malik Maqbool, Muhammad Ashraf, Muhammad Inayat, Gulzar and Jahangir pilfering electricity.
BURNT CHILD DIES: A child who received burns died in a hospital after three days. Reportedly, two children, residents of village Jhalar Dewana, sustained burn injuries and were admitted to a hospital where Haseeb died.
