Rabbani, Qaim agree to convene VCs meeting

KARACHI – Federal Minister for Inter-provincial Coordination Mian Raza Rabbani and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Sunday agreed to convene a joint meeting of the vice chancellors of all the universities in the province.
Rabbani held a meeting with Qaim Ali Shah at the Chief Minister’s House and discussed devolution of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) along with other federal government departments to the provinces under the 18th Amendment and other related issues.
Rabbani claimed that the vice chancellors of all universities an important meeting on Saturday fully supported the devolution of HEC to the provinces and also appreciated the performance of the Implementation Commission on the 18th Amendment.
He said the process was underway to devolve the HEC to the provinces but the funding to all universities would continue, adding that the students getting education abroad under scholarships would also be not affected.
Imran Khan dubs HEC’s dissolution ‘malicious’
ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday condemned the dissolution of Higher Education Commission, a premier institution for the promotion of higher education in Pakistan.
Imran Khan said that a government that had failed to govern and had let loose forces of destruction and was now bent upon taking vindictive action against HEC for pursuing the case of fake degrees of parliamentarians, according to a statement issued here.
“A parliament and government formed on bogus votes with a majority of parliamentarians contesting elections on fake degrees is shamelessly pursuing its agenda of controlling all state organizations particularly those that have the courage to question their legitimacy,” he said. Staff Report
