Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s spokesman on Tuesday denied that the PM was scheduled to meet Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Zardari during his visit to London.

“The PM did not express desire to meet the PPP leadership during his upcoming London visit,” PM’s spokesman Mussadaq Malik said in a statement.

Sharif is leaving for a medical checkup on Wednesday (today), Malik added.

Earlier, PPP leader Senator Aitzaz Ahsan claimed that Nawaz Sharif is visiting London to meet Zardari to seek his support over Panama Papers.

“Nawaz Sharif is going to London on a one-point mission to meet PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari and plead for his support,” Aitzaz said.

He, however, warned that PPP would be in trouble if it decided to back Nawaz Sharif on the issue.

Meanwhile, Zardari has also refused to extend his party’s support to the PML-N government, which is facing tremendous pressure over Panama leaks.

According to reliable sources, the PPP leadership has contacted Asif Ali Zardari to get his advice about the party’s stance on Panama papers.

The former president has directed his party to give a “tough time” to the ruling party, they said.

Sources quoted Zardari as saying that PPP cannot support the government to conceal somebody’s corruption.

“Nawaz Sharif will have to decide himself on the issue of corruption,” he said, adding that the PPP would stand by political parties if there was any threat to democracy.
