Two teenage boys, 17-year-old Naveed Kumbhar and 15-year-old Kashif Magsi, were brought unconscious on Friday to the CMCH casualty ward. Kashif later died. According to the doctors on duty, Naveed’s condition was also very critical and they were afraid he may not survive.

Both musicians had gone to Zakaria Mahesar village to perform at a wedding ceremony, according to initial police reports. Their relatives alleged that the boys were molested before being poisoned. So far, no FIR has been lodged, though a new complaint has been registered at the Market police station.

On hearing the news of his death, Kashif’s family members began beating paramedics who were on duty, after which doctors and other staff refused to perform their duties in protest. Police were called to control the situation and the doctors reached the nearby office of the medical superintendent and took refuge there. The employees resumed their duties when the police arrived and assured them of their full protection. They were also persuaded to resume their duties by chief medical officer Dr Hafiz Gulab Morio.

Mysterious deaths

Three persons, including two minors, died of poisoning in Larkana on Friday.

Ambar, the 40-year-old wife of Javed Masih, and her daughter, 11-year-old Honey, died after allegedly consuming poisonous food near Jaral Shah. Her daughters, seven-year-old Mano and nine-year-old Pamy, fell unconscious. They were brought to Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH), Larkana for treatment.

Masih told the police and duty staff that they came to Larkana from Lahore to get psychiatric treatment for his wife a few days ago and were returning home when this incident took place. He said his two other daughters have been admitted to CMCH’s paediatric department while the bodies of the deceased have been shifted to the mortuary for legal formalities.

The family, residents of Lahore’s Gulberg area, was residing at a house belonging to a local Pakistan Peoples Party leader, Mazhar Ali Junejo. A few years ago, Junejo’s sister and her daughter were found dead in a graveyard under mysterious circumstances after travelling to Larkana from Lahore to claim an inheritance.
