The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday granted protective bail to Pakistan People’s Party leader Abdul Qadir Patel in Dr Asim’s case of treating terrorists.

Patel, who is currently out of the country for getting treatment, is accused of asking Dr Asim to look after terrorists, who injured in clashes with law enforcers or their rivals, at Ziauddin Hospital. The PPP leader, through his counsel, approached the court seeking protective bail as, according to him, he is innocent and has nothing to do with terrorism.

The Patel’s counsel submitted that Rangers has issued his client a call up notice for investigation in a case of treating the terrorists at Ziauddin Hospital owned by Dr Asim. The counsel stated that there were contradictions in the FIR and the challan of the case and the entire allegation leveled against his client were baseless. He requested the court to grant protective bail to Patel. After hearing the arguments, the SHC bench approved his protective bail against the surety bonds of Rs 2,00,000 for the period of one week. It is pertinent to mention here that an Anti-Terrorism Court had issued arrest warrants against Abdul Qadir Patel several times but police failed to arrest him as he was out of the country.
