Imran Khan arrives for the National Assembly session summoned by President Mamnoon Hussain at 5:00 pm in Parliament House Islamabad today.
According to sources, members of the opposition parties will raise the issue of the offshore companies owned by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family mentioned in the Panama Papers.
In a message posted on Facebook, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan announced that he will attend the Natioanal Assembly session today and present his party‘s stance on Panama leaks.
The “Panama Papers” revealed financial arrangements of politicians and public figures including friends of Russian President Vladimir Putin, relatives of the prime ministers of Britain, Iceland and Pakistan, and the president of Ukraine.
While holding money in offshore companies is not illegal, journalists who received the leaked documents said they could provide evidence of wealth hidden for tax evasion, money laundering, sanctions busting, drug deals or other crimes.
Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif set up a judicial commission after political opponents accused him of corruption.
Sharif’s Sharif’s sons, Hussain, and Hassan, and daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif were named in the reports, based on documents that were leaked from the Panama-based law firm Mossack Fonseca & Co.
Opposition parties are seeking an independent investigation into the source of his children’s wealth, as detailed in the documents. Imran Khan also urged the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to open an investigation.
Separately, the issue of Pakistani cricket team’s poor performance in World Twent20 will also be raised in the National Assembly today. Calling Attention notices against the implementation of Customs Act in Kohistan district and Malakand division are also part of the agenda.
Questions to be asked:
1. Where did the money into the offshore accounts come from? (How much was the steel mill in Saudi sold for, there must be a financial record of it with corresponding tax filings in Saudi Arabia? Doubtful it could pay for several flats on Park Lane in London. What else is the source of the funds? Have the Sharif children been in high paid jobs or what actual businesses have they run other than shell companies?)
2. Why is the money being kept in offshore accounts and not invested in Pakistan? Shouldn't the politicians who expect others to make sacrifies for the progress of the country, invest their own wealth in the country especially if they have made it from here?
It is well known that politicans and businesspeople make money by underhanded kick-backs and loans, stashing the money abroad, defaulting on the loan or only paying back the principal without the interest after many years. While claiming to be pious and honourable. A few families get obscenely rich, while the country becomes poorer. Has to stop now.

Only one point should take the entire time of this session and rightly so.That is to thoroughly probe Nawaz Sharif Shabaz Sharif and family. Prime Minister of the country and his family has been found to be neck deep in illegal businesses of enormous value and no body knows where all the money came from!!!! The entire government machinery is now occupied with defending a known corrupt people and Governance is going down the drain. Nawaz Sharif should have stepped down even temporarily but he knows his past and present therefore he won’t be back if investigations are honest. It is time for our Supreme Judiciary to play its role.
