LAHORE – Law Minister Babar Awan has alleged that the entire record of the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto case’s judicial proceedings has been changed, saying that even the statements of important witness have gone missing.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Awan said jurists had rejected the fabricated case proceedings in the “judicial murder” of the PPP founder. However, he said the nation was united on cleaning the black spot on the judicial history of the country.
He said that the PPP adopted the legal method by presenting his case for review in the constitutional court instead of taking revenge for Bhutto’s murder. The law minister said the PPP always contacted people’s court, but this time it had presented its case in the judiciary. He said it had been proved that Bhutto’s murder was a “judicial” one and a conspiracy.
He alleged that “all characters of this case had been prepared before the submission of the case”, adding that a big portion of the record of the case had been removed covertly and many witnesses had not presented in the court at that time and several statements had not been recorded. The minister said the report prepared by Justice Shafiuz Zaman had been ignored, adding that not only the constitution was tampered with but also democratic institutions had been destroyed.
Welcoming the hearing set for April 13, Awan said President Asif Ali Zardari had filed the reference in time. He said the reference had no connection with politics. To a question, Awan said political activities of the MQM in Punjab would strengthen democracy.
Later, addressing reporters, Maqbool Elahi Malik, also present, congratulated President Zardari for filing the reference in the Bhutto “murder” case.
