The administration of Mazar-e-Quaid (Quaid’s mausoleum) has denied permission for a public rally on April 24 by the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) led by former MQM leader and Karachi mayor Mustafa Kamal.

Kamal had earlier announced that his party would stage its first political gathering on April 24, and he had also submitted a written application to the administration of the venue – the mausoleum of Qauid-e-Azam.

But the administration officials at the Mazar-e-Quaid said there were security concerns and that they were therefore unable to give permission for such a rally on the premises of mausoleum. According to sources, the administration has returned Kamal’s application.

It remains to be seen whether the Pak Sarzameen Party reschedules its rally to a later date or announces a different venue for the political gathering. Several prominent names have joined the party since Kamal returned to Karachi last month and announced the formation of new party in a direct challenge to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

The latest major addition to the party was revealed on Monday when former MQM senator Dr Mohammed Ali Brohi and other dissident members of the party joined the ex-Karachi mayor. Besides Brohi, several MQM activists who had served as zonal members, zonal-in-charges, and sector in-charges also joined the party. With Brohi’s induction, the number of dissident MQM leaders in the PSP has increased to seven.
