ISLAMABAD – The office bearers of All Pakistan Newspapers Editors Forum (APNEF) along with scores of journalists staged a protest demonstration against the APNS here on Saturday. They were condemning the resolution recently passed by the APNS for delisting all the non-APNS members from central media list.
The APNEF chanted slogans against APNS President Hameed Haroon and demanded the government to launch accountability of the APNS members. Addressing the gathering Rana Imran, founder and chairman of APNEF, strongly condemned the APNS’ resolution, saying that the demand of APNS to de-list all non-APNS members from central media list and stop their advertisements was tantamount to grab morsel from the poor journalists.
“APNS has only 314 members while APNEF has the strength of 600 members; therefore, we are the real representatives of newspaper editors,” he said, demanding of the government to increase advertisement quota of regional and local newspapers. He said that the APNEF would opt for ‘extreme measures’ if its demands were not met by the ministry of information and broadcasting.
