Demand for food packaging on the up

KARACHI – Foreign exhibitors at the eighth PLASTI & PACK and eighth IFTECH Pakistan 2011 have observed that Pakistan has emerged a good market for quality machines and technology with local entrepreneurs becoming more quality conscious about food grading, packaging and processing.
Speaking to media on the concluding day of the event at Karachi Expo Centre here Friday, they said the demand for latest food and plastic technology and machines is rising in Pakistan. Bertuzzi Food Processing of Italy Food Technologist Luca Panzeri stated he has been visiting Pakistan since 1996 and he has seen a significant rise in demand for advanced technology for food processing and preparation.
Pakistani companies wanted to diversify and look for new and best products for their business. Top buyers included Nestle Pakistan and Shangrila. Pakistani companies are focused on quality and they believe that quality pays even in the local market, he added. “I see strong potential for our machines and this is why I frequently visit Pakistan. I see no threat here. Pakistanis are friendly people and I enjoy my visit and meeting top business people.”
Stefan Herzhauser of WRH Marketing of Germany said that the response is very good and he met top quality buyers at the exhibition. He claimed his firm is a leading business group in the fields of food grading, packaging, printing and offer ready made solutions for meat and vegetable packaging.
“This is my third visit to Pakistan and I find Pakistanis to be hospitable. I have met quite a number of senior executives of leading Pakistani companies involved in the food business and they are interested in high quality machine, which is a good sign. I see a lot of potential here for food packaging machinery and technology,” he observed.
Sinomech Corp, Managing Director Zuo Guangshen said that his company has been selling solvent-less laminating machines, metering mixers and printing and converting equipment to Pakistani companies.He also concurred with the view that Pakistani companies are getting more quality conscious and taking care of environmental and sanitary issues.
BSW Machinery Handles-GmbH Gerald Scharingner, senior sales manager of a member of Windmoller and Hollscher Group, Austria said that this was his tenth visit to Pakistan. “Pakistan is a good market for good quality machines and growing fast. They can pay a high price for best quality machines. But they are tough negotiators”, he added.
Scharinger said his company offers a wide variety of technology solutions for the food and beverages industry.
