The inquiry into serious allegations on Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leadership by Sarfaraz Merchant has stopped due to transfer of FIA Islamabad Director Inam Ghani.

On the other hand, despite the letter from the Interior Ministry, no intelligence agency including the Sindh government has provided any evidence against the MQM leadership.

The interior minister has rejected the summary of Waseem Sial for appointing him FIA Islamabad director.

According to sources, former FIA director Inam Ghani had contacted Sarfaraz Merchant in London for recording his statement in the money laundering case against MQM Chief Altaf Hussain. Sources said that after Inam Ghani was transferred, the inquiry was effectively stopped.

FIA Director Anti-Terrorism Wing Mazhar Kakakhel has been given the additional charge of DG FIA, Islamabad. No inquiry will be conducted into the money laundering case till the appointment of a regular DG FIA, Islamabad.

  1. Invalid reason to stop prob of so important a case. It is the department which is investigating, not a person.
