The Board of Directors of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) decided in a meeting that working of the national flag carrier would be broadly divided into six divisions: flight operations, commercial, services, technical and planning, HR and admin and finance.

The meeting was held at PIA office Islamabad with PIA Chairman Muhammad Irfan Elahi in the chair. Other departments including safety and quality, IT, security and vigilance would be working under the COO whereas legal and internal audit would work under the CEO directly. The meeting approved that the IT department of PIA would be expanded to meet the requirements.

The meeting also decided that pilots for ATR planes would be hired on contract basis to meet the shortage and save training cost. Tenure of PIA’s pilots is around a year after which they have to undergo training for A-320. Therefore, the PIA has to incur double training cost. Their contract period would be valid till the limit of their licenses.

The meeting also approved ad hoc relief allowance of 16.5 per cent of last year’s salary expenditure for PIA pilots. The agreements of pilots expired in 2013 and since then new agreements couldn’t be signed. Now this relief would be valid till PIA signs new agreement with pilots.
