LCWU shows films on women’s rights

LAHORE – Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) in collaboration with Shirkat Gah Women’s Resource Centre organised the screening of documentaries on ‘Violence against Women’ on Friday.
LCWU Dean Faculty of Humanities and Oriental Learning Dr Hamala Khalid presided over the program, which aimed at projecting various forms of violence against women, which have become a norm in the society. Two documentaries produced by the students of LCWU Department of Mass Communication titled ‘Apna Haq Pehchanu’ and ‘Burn Life’ were screened.
Shirkat Gah Advocacy and Communications Director Fauzia Viqar stressed the need to aware women of their rights, which are enshrined by Islam. She said the government should provide financial support to women. LCWU Department of Mass Communication In-charge Dr Anjum Zia said that injustice against women increased as each day passed and the easiest way to fight for women’s right was to create awareness among the masses about their basic rights.
Each documentary screening was follwed by a question and answer session, in which teachers and students actively participated. In the end, a short film on honour killing ‘Mehru’ was shown and certificates were distributed among the documentary makers.
