The Larkana Union of Journalists and Benazir Bhutto Press Club (BBPC) jointly took out a rally on Tuesday against the arrest of their colleague Rahmat Bhutto under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
The journalists marched through different parts of the city bazaars and held sit-ins at Punj Gulli and Allahwala roundabouts. The protesters warned that if the case against their colleague was not withdrawn, they would boycott the coverage of 37th death anniversary of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto on 4th April and hold protests in front of party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
While addressing the participants, LUJ leaders Zafar Abro, Sarkash Sadhayo, Sarfraz Abbasi, Munwar Rind, Riaz Abro, and Gul Bahar Shaikh said that the ATC against a working Journalist was state highhandedness which would never be tolerated.
They said nobody was allowed to meet the arrested journalist which was sheer violation of basic human rights and treating him as terrorist was highly deplorable. Naundero Police Station SHO Muhammad Mangrio was acting like a private servant of an influential politician, they claimed. They appealed to the chief justice of Pakistan to provide them justice.
